Thrown to the Cold Driveway

Julian: Throw her bags into the dirt!

The heavy front door of the grand estate slammed shut with a sharp, echoing boom that rattled the glass windows. Olivia stood in the bright afternoon sun, her heart hammering against her ribs as suitcase after suitcase crashed down onto the hard concrete driveway. Her bright pastel yellow dress caught the light, contrasting sharply with the dusty pavement beneath her worn shoes.

She wrapped her cream cardigan tightly around her trembling shoulders, trying to shield herself from the cold wind that suddenly swept across the open courtyard. Every piece of clothing she owned lay scattered around her feet like worthless garbage. The sheer humiliation burned in her chest, making it nearly impossible to draw a full breath.

Julian: (laughing) Make sure you pick up every last rag, Olivia!

Standing on the marble porch above her was Julian, the man she had been married to for three long years. He wore his crisp navy blue polo shirt with an arrogant posture, his hands resting casually on his hips as he sneered down at her. Beside him stood Chloe, wearing a bright red dress that seemed almost mockingly loud in the bright daylight.

Chloe: You look ridiculous out there, Olivia! Maybe someone will give you spare change at the bus stop!

Olivia: How can you do this to me, Julian? I am carrying your baby!

Julian: That baby is not my problem anymore! My father signed over the entire family business to me this morning!

Olivia: I helped you run that company when you had nothing! I gave up my career for your dreams!

Julian: You were just a temporary stepping stone, my dear!

Olivia placed both of her hands gently over her round belly, feeling the soft movement of her unborn baby inside. Tears filled her eyes, blurring the sight of the man who had promised to love her until death parted them. She couldn't believe how quickly a person could change the moment they got a taste of real wealth and authority.

Chloe: Go back to whatever poor ditch you crawled out of! Julian is a CEO now, and he needs a real woman by his side!

Julian: Look at you, crying like a helpless child! Who is going to help you now, huh?

Olivia: You really think you won, don't you?

Julian: I have the house, the money, the title, and the entire estate in my name! You have nothing!

The cruel sound of their shared laughter filled the quiet residential street, echoing off the high stone walls surrounding the property. Olivia wiped the tears from her pale cheeks with the sleeve of her cardigan. The deep sadness inside her suddenly transformed into something hard, cold, and entirely focused.

She knew that begging would never change a heart as rotten as Julian's. He had spent years pretending to be a loving husband, waiting for the exact moment his father's trust fund and real estate portfolio cleared the bank. Now that the money was safely in his hands, he treated her like an inconvenient piece of past trash.

Olivia: You always assumed I came from nothing because I preferred a quiet life.

Julian: Because you DO come from nothing! You grew up in a tiny suburban house with no family name!

Olivia: My mother raised me alone to keep me humble, Julian. But my father never left my side.

Chloe: Oh stop talking nonsense and get off our driveway before we call security to drag you away!

Olivia didn't answer them again. Instead, she slowly reached her right hand deep into the side pocket of her cardigan and pulled out her plain black smartphone. Her fingers were steady as she tapped the screen, dialing a private direct phone line she had promised her mother she would never use unless her life depended on it.
