Jessica stood in the center of the patio as all her wedding dreams crumbled into dust. Her father turned away from her in complete disgust, refusing to back up her lies. The guests were whispering loudly, pulling out their phones to record her shame. Jessica felt a wave of hot anger and deep embarrassment wash over her face. She looked at Mark, who was helping his mother stand up to leave the property forever. She had lost everything because of her own ugly cruelty.
Jessica: Mark! You can't leave me here like this! Look at what you are doing to me!
Mark: You did this to yourself, Jessica. I am taking my mother home where she belongs.
Jessica: I hate you! I hate both of you! You ruined my perfect day!
In a fit of pure, childish rage, Jessica stomped her feet hard on the slick marble floor. She spun around fast, intending to march back into the house and lock herself in the dressing room. But her heavy, wet lace gown caught under the narrow heel of her designer shoe. Her ankle twisted sharply on the wet stone surface near the pool edge. She lost her balance completely, flailing her arms wildly in the air as her tiara flew off her head.
With a loud screech that echoed across the estate, Jessica tipped backward over the edge. She crashed directly into the deep blue water with a massive, heavy splash. The heavy layers of her ten-thousand-dollar wedding gown immediately filled up with water, pulling her deep down into the pool. She surfaced sputtering, her expensive makeup running down her face in dark streaks, her fancy hair ruined completely. The guests on the patio gasped, but not a single person moved to offer her a hand.
Mark didn't even turn his head back to look at her struggling in the water. He kept his arm wrapped firmly around his mother's shoulders, walking slowly toward his luxury car parked in the driveway. Elena looked back for a quick second, feeling a small touch of pity for the girl, but she knew her son had made the right choice. A woman who could not respect a hardworking mother would never make a good wife or partner in life.
Elena: Are you sure about this, Mark? You loved her very much.
Mark: I loved the girl I thought she was. Today I saw the real person behind the mask.
Elena: What will you do about the house and the business contracts with her father?
Mark: I will build my business on my own terms, just like I always have. We don't need their fake money.
They reached Mark's car, and he opened the passenger door gently for his mother. He made sure she was warm and comfortable before climbing into the driver's seat himself. As he drove away from the grand estate, he looked in the rearview mirror one last time. Jessica was being pulled out of the pool by the catering staff, looking completely soaked, defeated, and alone on her ruined wedding day.
